Team sports are beneficial for students in multiple ways. When you are in a team, you tend to forget almost everything and enjoy the task joyously. Interacting and co-operating with each other for a common purpose is fun and teaches us a lot in terms of handling stress and time management.

We have compiled 5 ways in which Team Sports can influence Student Psychology

Self-realisation

Everybody has some hidden talent. Team sports help you identify your hidden talent as you are indirectly engaged in various tasks. You may suddenly realise you are good at executing a certain task and may identify your hidden talent.

In team sports, a student unknowingly analyzes his personality traits. What he is good at and what he is not. You can identify positive and negative aspects of your personality and try to improve.

Graceful Attitude in Adverse Situations

In sports, somebody loses and somebody wins. If you are losing the game, you will learn to lose it gracefully. This gracefulness will help you in tackling many difficult situations, not only in student life but life in general as well.

Gracefulness and graciousness are traits that help an individual in establishing contact with other people and coordinate accordingly. A student can network among his peers and get the necessary help.

Better Stress Handling Capacity

You win. You lose. Either way, it is learning something new. Losing a game teaches you to be resilient. You will learn to handle negative emotions in a healthy way. If you learn to handle your emotions effectively, it will increase your performance.

Develops Ethical and Holistic Approach

Appreciation from teammates, mutual respect towards each other, patience and dedication for a common cause develop an ethical holistic approach among students. A student will feel empowered and encouraged by the appreciation in team sports.

Improved Academic Performance

A study conducted by University Kansas showed that the academic performance levels of students in grades 9 to 12 improved significantly and these students graduated high school, 10 percent higher than the students were not active in sports activities.

The five C’s that are bolsteted by the team sports are character, confidence, connections, caring attitude and competence. Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle research has established a connection between short term relaxation and improved performance. They have concluded that engaging in sports activities provide relaxation to the students which can ultimately help them in terms of creative ability, enhanced memory and problem solving skills.

Life is a play. If we want to organise our life successfully we can do so by enjoying it as a sports activity. Maybe, that’s why they say ‘Be a sport!’. Being a part of a team helps you learn evolve as an efficient and successful person.
